<title>ABSTRACT</title>
<p> As it is well known, coating technology has a big part in a number of applications including high temperatures, wear, corrosion, and oxidation. Coatings are applied to improve surface properties of the substrate such as appearance, adhesion, wettability, corrosion resistance, wear resistance and scratch resistance. In general, homogeneous metal coatings on metal substrates are used for this purpose. In this sence, the most important problem faced in the systems with these types of coatings is interface where the stress field is singularity. This paper presents a finite element model enabling the user to evaluate stresses in the examined specimens and to evaluate bonding quality on the main metal substrate Tungsten Carbide (WC) coated Titanium Nitride (TiN) and/or Titanium Carbonitride (TiCN). In addition, this study considers that materials of layer bond coating, because the concept of using this type layered materials as surface coatings in various technological applications is currently being investigated by the materials research community. In these types of coatings, material properties change on interface area of the layer, thus the mismatch between substrate and coating interface stresses in the system should be minimized. In this study, some models were created. Firstly total height of coating was chosen as 5 &#956;m and thickness of coating was 5 &#956;m while substrate was coated with only TiN. Than, it was decided that the new coating materials should be added to between substrate and TiN due to occuring high stress concentration along the interface in model. The comparative analyses were carried out by using results of finite element analyses for shear and peeling stresses results of these basic model layer bond coating. When multi layered and single layered coatings are considered, it is showed that multi layered is safer than single layered coating. Quality of adhesive bond is increased when total height of coating is multi-layered. </p><p>Keywords: Single layered coating, Multi layered coating, Finite element analysis. </p>
