<title>ABSTRACT</title>
<p>Water pollution is one of the most significant problems in today&#8217;s industrialized world. Heavy metals leaching from industrial and consumer waste accumulate in the world&#8217;s freshwater sources and acid rains around the world only make the situation worse by releasing heavy metals trapped in the soil. Among these heavy metals is lead, which is a common pollutant that renders freshwater sources toxic and unusable. To clarify the lead ions in wastewater, new treatment methods are being explored in an effort to find the cheapest and most effective way of doing it. Pomegranate (punica granatum) is a common and frequently consumed fruit in Turkey. In this study, the purpose was to explore the possibility of using pomegranate peel and create the optimum condition for the purification of  Pb&#43;2 ions (a common poisonous heavy metal inside water sources) in wastewater with the help of the acids inside the pomegranate peel.  Specifically, the effects of mixing speed of the solution, solution&#8217;s pH, solution&#8217;s Pb&#43;2 ion concentration, and the pomegranate peel amount that was added into the solution were observed. These factors&#8217; effect on Pb&#43;2 ion treatment was measured by UV spectrophotometer. At the end of the study, mixing speed of the solution and the amount of pomegranate peel added was directly proportional with Pb&#43;2 ion treatment, pH and Pb&#43;2 ion concentration were inversely proportional with Pb&#43;2 ion treatment. Using Pomegranate Peel as an alternative water treatment method can be effective and cost-efficient in places with high consumption of the fruit.</p>
