<title>ABSTRACT</title>
<p>The article discusses the level of development of the smart grid in the  Russian regions and its impact to increase the energy efficiency. The reasons that slow down these processes are analyzed. The level of development of intelligent electrical networks in the regions of Russia is determined, the energy consumption, the energy intensity of GRP and the impact of energy-saving technologies on the level of energy efficiency of the regions are analyzed. The authors proposed the Summary Energy Efficiency Index to characterize the efficiency of energy use and energy consumption in the regions of Russia. This enables a comprehensive assessment of energy efficiency, based on official statistics, taking into account the efficiency of electricity use in the public sector, the development of smart energy system and the environmental impact of energy use.</p>
