<title>ABSTRACT</title>
<p>``(T)he scale and pace of China's economic transformation in little more than a generation is unprecedented in human history.''1<br />Months before this observation by Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull a survey was conducted with local Chinese querying the public's opinion of the leader responsible for China's extraordinary success. The results of the survey provide insights into the China of today and how it views its past. The data collected obviously invite a more formal scientific survey. Since such a scientific survey is unlikely, given the current Chinese government, the data generated from this convenience sampling of Chinese opinion have greater relevance than they would in a more open society. </p>
