Technological advances are affecting traditional approaches to organizational training and educational instruction. Business leaders and educators are increasingly turning to Immersive Learning Simulations (ILSs) and Serious Games to provide workers and students with learning opportunities not previously available. Advocates for the use of ILSs in educational settings are not hard to find. Yet, there are detractors too, and there remain many challenges that limit universal endorsement. Acceptance among educational institutions, educators, and students, varies considerably. Some are quick to recognize benefits; others are not as convinced. Educators and trainers using ILS technologies in the classroom need to carefully consider individual student learning styles and the appropriateness of the games and simulations for fulfilling learning objectives. Further technological advances will keep ILSs and Serious Games under the microscope for researchers and educators.
