The article deals with formative aspects of contemporary literature for children and youth. It points out the eminent Czech women writers and selected titles of their work published after 2000, which look into the topics of drugs and issues of incomplete family. The main motifs of these topics connect both general knowledge of basic school pupils and major part of pupils’ activities with regard to its realization in school and extracurricular environment with strictly determined educational content of concrete educational subjects in scope of so called cross–curricular topics. The thematic spheres of cross–curricular topics reflect the topical problems of today’s world, going through the educational fields and help to the complexity of education. Both mentioned topics are related in scope of cross–curricular topics with Personality and Social Education and Civics. In the field of knowledge and skills pupils for example get the basic social skills for dealing with the difficult situations and conflicts, think about the problems in wider relations, judge and evaluate the social phenomena, processes, events and problems from various points of view. They realize the values of cooperation and help in the field of attitudes and values.
