This paper reviews the adaptive possibilities of Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS). ITS, as a rule, assesses the level of knowledge, and divides learners into several main types by progress. Individual properties of a learner often influence the success of the study in a decisive way and do not depend much on his/her level of knowledge in the given domain. These individual properties in the learning context are reduced to cognitive characteristics determining methods and preferences of an individual. The paper discusses the control of teaching process based on individual characteristics of a learner.
