This paper is about the spate of violence against women in Nigeria. Violence against women is a form of violence that targets women and girls because of their gender. While violence affects women and girls with serious mental, health and economic implications, efforts towards eradicating this are slow. Besides, the victims, women and girls are not in the mainstream of the solutions to the problem. Written from a gender perspective, the paper recommends that policy makers, governments, Non-Governmental Organizations, women organizations as well as members of the academia should fight against the scourge of violence against women and do all they can to see that this act is stamped out.
