In 17^th and 18^th centuries, sexual relationships among men were conceived as sins against the family unit, the acts existed but they were performed by individuals without a specific term to define them. A second moment in the history of homosexuality raises in 19^th century and first half of the 20^th when the term “homosexual” was understood as we know it nowadays and the figure of the homosexual distinguished from the heterosexual born, but still condemned, now as a mental illness. In 1973 homosexuality was removed from the list of psychiatric disorders of the DSM-II; an event that the newborn gay community embraced and some countries applauded, but not Latin American cultures characterized by traditions and conventionalism. After almost four decades, Mexico stepped forward in the era of acceptance of sexual diversity when in 2009 legislators in Mexico City approved same sex marriage, which represented a major change in terms of socio-political structure. In order to see how these events have impacted the ideology of gay people and how it is reflected in the construction of a new way of establishing relationships in this more tolerant scenario, this research compiles information obtained from 60 gay men from an age range from the late teens to the late fifties on how they conceptualize, experience, and live their relationships. Founded on a qualitative research, this descriptive study was made through a series of focus groups started on 2003 and finalized on 2011. The evolution of gay relationships in the first decade of the 21^st century is portrayed in this research, from mature men who born when the homosexuality was recently an identity to young men who always have seen it as a valid way of life, illuminating the field of gay relationships in the postmodernism.
