<title>ABSTRACT</title>
<p> Endemic corruption has brought forth many challenges to the countries of Central Asia, following the post-Soviet collapse. Despite national and international efforts, corruption is still widespread in almost all aspects of people&#8217;s lives in the region. Coupled with that, most authoritarian governments of these countries are perceived to be highly corrupt since they have monopolized major profit-making businesses thus impeding the growth of the private enterprise. Corrupt networks in the region include government officials and crime groups whose activities are difficult to be prevented by the public. This paper talks about endemic corruption in the Central Asian republics and how corruption brings about challenges to the security and effective governance. </p><p>Keywords: Central Asia, Corruption, Democracy, Security, Governance, Drug trafficking. </p>
