<title>ABSTRACT</title>
<p> Wroclaw is a city with a specific pattern of urban design mainly shaped by historical circumstances and social needs of the 1960-80&#8217;s, and like any other city is unique in many ways. However, general to all cities are the urban problems that it faces. This article raises the problem of transportation within the city center, and more specifically the role that cycling can play in the city transportation system. The development of motorization, and urban spaces dominated by cars causes congestion of the city center, and thus reduces its availability and attractiveness. In recent years bicycle traffic in Wroclaw has significantly increased and a new cycling infrastructure was built. This city, however, has untapped and enormous potential for being a cycle friendly city, the implementation of projects and their coordination is underdeveloped. The potential also lies in the localization of the city and its urban structure. It is located on flat terrain, and the zone radius of 8 km from the center, concentrates a large number of inhabitants. It means that a large number of residents within an average tiring journey can easily access downtown. Each year the number of cyclists in Wroclaw is increasing. The most important task is to make cycling competitive to other means of transport and provide suitable conditions for both spatial and political environment, to encourage residents to use their bicycle every day. Direct implementation from other city of cycle solutions such as Copenhagen will not achieve the desired effect, because the political, structural and social conditionings are significantly different. Thus, it is necessary to carry out a series of urban studies such as the city spatial structure, the possibility of developing new cycling infrastructure, the system of public spaces, the existing cycling infrastructure and compare them with other cycle cities. This analysis will lead to formulate the specific guidelines for the development of cycling infrastructure in Wroc&#322;aw, and customize specific solutions to current conditions. </p><p><italic>Keywords: </italic>Urban structure, Cycling, City, Spatial planning. </p>
