Music is one subject and topic that can not be debated upon, on its ability to create, form and maintain relationships. However that relationship and whatever form that relationship might take, music is a bonding force. One definition of music is that, it is a universal language, hence it has the ability to bring together all of human beings, irrespective of colour, height, race or age. Culture on the other hand can be imbibed by a second party because of music. The culture in Igbo land is so broad, beautiful and controversial most times that people tend to wonder its ability in fostering relationships especially with neighbours torn apart by war, hunger and hatred. But, a closer look in the music aspect of this great ‘Igbo’ culture, from experience and experiments, revealed that it can foster social relationships among the ‘Igbos’ and their neighbours. This paper is intended to reveal this ability of music in the ‘Igbo’ culture to foster social relationships among the ‘Igbos’ in Nigeria and their neighbours.
