ABSTRACT

The work presents the results of the sample sociological research conducted by the Institute of Demography and Sociology of Georgia in 2013. The research, inter alia, aimed at studying intergenerational family relationships, in particular, the issue of intergenerational relationships between adult children and their parents, and grandchildren and their grandparents. The present work discusses a number of issues, including the influence made by the demo-economic transformation developed in the country in the post-Soviet period on the intergenerational proximity, the relationships between various generations. It has been identified that at this stage of demographic aging, when one fifth of the country’s population is aged, intergenerational relations have been founded on stable traditional relationships. Given the economic crisis developed in the country over the past two decades, the rise in the number of the elders has not undermined the solidary relationships established between the generations.
