ABSTRACT

Corporate advertising helps companies to communicate their message effectively and efficiently.
Through corporate advertising, the company may convince the public that it has a positive attitude
toward important issues and generate public concern about issues that are positively related to its
corporate identity. However, as most large companies agree in using corporate advertising as a tool to
manage and enhance corporate image, there are also companies who believe that corporate advertising
is a waste of resources since the relationship between corporate advertising and sales is less obvious
compared to product advertising. The objective of this study is to examine the public perception toward
petroleum companies in Malaysia and to identify the types of corporate advertising the companies are
using in order to benefit the image of the company as a whole. The result concludes that corporate
advertising plays an essential role in enhancing the image of the organizations and in cultivating a
positive reputation among consumers. The result also shows that a corporate advertising is more
efficient in building recall for a company name than product advertising and creation of a good citizen
image through consistent and dedicated effort.
