ABSTRACT

Computer-assisted language learning (CALL) has been employed for language teaching and learning, especially foreign language learning since 1950s, and a significant number of research studies have been conducted on this topic. A variety of learning theories concerning language teaching and learning have been applied for CALL depending on technologies available at different times. Nowadays, with the increasing availability and affordability of various types of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), such as hand-held devices and social networking software, researchers and teachers find more ways to enhance language learning with the assistance of ICT. This paper presents experiments the authors’ carried out in the past few years using commonly available ICT for English teaching and learning among English learners of different levels in China, with the aim to share their experience, based on which, some recommendations are provided for colleagues in similar academic domains.
