<title>ABSTRACT</title>
<p>The purpose of this study is to investigate and explore polytechnic student&#8217;s preference of digital devices and the application of ICT in the classroom. It also explores how different gender distinguishes their preference and what are the barriers they face in using ICT. The participants of the study were 140 students of Diploma of Electronic Engineering from a polytechnic in the northern region of Malaysia. Based on the findings it was concluded that students&#8217; ownership of digital devices does not determine their preference of learning technology in the classroom. Students have the same preference of learning methods as used in their secondary school. However, they perceive all instructional technologies to be useful. They also favoured classes that implement extensive use of ICT such as by having online lecturers, computer simulation, video and audio streaming. ICT was found to be beneficial to them as it improves their learning and communication with lecturers and peers. The main burden they face is their dissatisfaction towards internet connection in the polytechnic. The only significant gender difference is regarding the level of expectation on the subject of implementation of ICT in the classroom. Female students were more satisfied than male students in this context.        </p>
