ABSTRACT

This study examines the influence of pictures on exercise books on career choices of children in basic schools in the Madina municipality, which is a section of Accra, the capital of Ghana. It is a quantitative study; therefore, data was collected through questionnaire administered to children in four primary schools in the Madina Municipality. Out of the respondents, 83.50 % said they wanted to be like the celebrities on the exercise books while 16.50% did not wish to be like the people in the pictures. The paper tries to contend that pictures on exercise books have tremendous communicative impact on children and can influence their career choices. Various studies have been conducted on the influence of television on children but the influence of pictures on exercise books appears not to be considered. The outcome of this research will be relevant for policy regarding the printing of exercise books for children.
